YESCO Crafts Classic Signs for O.C. Tanner Flagship Store
5/10—Salt Lake City, Utah
YESCO Salt Lake recently finished a complete signage project for O.C. Tanner’s new flagship retail location in a century-old architectural gem in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City.
The building is a classic – the perfect home for a company of O.C. Tanner’s image and stature. Built in 1905 at 15 South State Street, it was once a library, then a planetarium, and finally spent a few years vacant until its 2009 rebirth as O.C. Tanner’s flagship jewelry and gift store. The $24.5 million renovation, which Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker called a gift from the O.C. Tanner company to its home city, restored the classic Beaux-Arts structure to its original glory ... and then some. MJSA Architecture was responsible for the project’s planning and design.
The client is also a classic. O.C. Tanner is a premier international award and recognition business, and a well-known jewelry and fine gift manufacturer and retailer, based in Salt Lake City. It has been one of the most respected and successful businesses in Utah for more than 80 years.
YESCO’s Harald Aune hand-painted the letters above the massive main entrance doors and the logos on the doors using metallic paint, enhancing the building’s history. YESCO also crafted and installed exterior and interior directional signs and plaques to match the structure’s architectural design. Most of the signs are cast-bronze with oxidized finishes to create lighter-shaded letters and numbers on darker backgrounds.
