Production Requirements

Preparation of Artwork

All digital files should be supplied at 300 dpi minimum with a printout. The preferred layout size is 3/8" or 1/4" scale. Screen and printer fonts should be included as well as all image files. Supply original transparencies or hi-resolution scans of images. (Low-resolution images are acceptable for placement only.) All images and art files provided should be saved in CMYK mode, and in EPS or TIFF format with a color printout of the layout attached. In general, you need to take into account your target size and multiply by 300 (typical printing resolution) for example, if you want an 8" x 10" JPG image, your target pixel size will be 2400 x 3000.

Flexible Face Bulletins (Opaque PVC/Vinyl)

These may be hand-painted or digitally printed on vinyl in full or partial size. Durable and long-lasting, the flexible vinyl face presents a uniform process with good color and art fidelity. Partial vinyl faces are also used. As with paper bulletins, plastic must be supplied at least ten working days prior to the posting date. The material is usually produced on one sheet (usually 14' x 49') and stretched over the face of the structure or adhered to it. Pole pockets of 4', contained within the bleed on all for sides, are required.

The vinyl-coated polyester weave usually used for a bulletin/substrate varies in weight and density, depending on its application. Typically, billboard flex is a lightweight material -- its strength derived from the structure it wraps. It tends not to be fire retardant and is between 8 oz. and 12 oz. per square yard. A heavier 18 oz. material is available. It is fire-retardant and is more typically used for interior signage and in situations where flame spread and smoke density are an issue.

Inks

Inks are weatherproof and waterproof and have UV protection.

Extensions

To increase the impact of bulletins and other-out-of home displays, extensions (cutouts that extend beyond the basic shape of the structure) are often used. Extensions or cut-outs may be added around the perimeter of the structure at a one-time charge per square foot, plus a once-a-month maintenance charge. Depending on local restrictions, extensions or cut-outs may add from 5' to 5'6" at the top, 2' at the sides and 1' at bottom of structures. Extra space costs are comparable to print media foldouts or inserts.
