YESCO’s Salt Lake division moved its operations into a newly constructed, 104,000 square-foot facility located in west Salt Lake Valley, Utah, on June 5, 2009.

“The new facility is designed with our lean manufacturing process in mind,” states Ron Anderson, YESCO’s project manager for the construction of new building. “Our division has been engaged in a lean processes implementation initiative for some time now, and we have spent a lot of time working to design a new building to facilitate those processes, both on the office side and more specifically on the manufacturing end.”

“The YESCO management team – particularly Tom, Michael, Paul and Jeff Young – was smack in the middle of the design of the building and monitoring the progress of the construction throughout the project,” Anderson adds. “We met each Monday at the corporate office to address design issues and review progress. Most of the decisions made were made as a body.”

Until its move in early June, YESCO Salt Lake had occupied a building on 300 West Street in Salt Lake City since 1949 – exactly 60 years ago. The division’s move to its new home was precipitated by a developer’s very attractive offer to purchase the 300 West property in order to build a retail shopping center. The offer was seen as an excellent opportunity to move out of the older existing building into a new, cutting-edge facility that could be built from the ground up to more closely meet the division’s specific needs. YESCO had been developing designs for a building of this type well before selling its 300 West property.

The new facility’s architect was AEUrbia, and the contractor was Tom Stuart Construction. Actual construction began in the first week in October, 2008, and the facility was completed about eight months later – by the first week in June, 2009 – on a compressed schedule.

Eric Ensign, YESCO’s consulting real estate professional, played an important role in the sale of the division’s old location and the acquisition of the new property.

YESCO Salt Lake’s new address is 1605 South Gramercy Road, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84104. Gramercy Road is located at approximately 4300 West.
