Donation to The Unionville Tavern Preservation Society

In September 2019, YESCO Cleveland had the opportunity to make a donation to The Unionville Tavern Preservation Society.

The society works to preserve Ohio’s oldest surviving tavern, aptly called “The Old Tavern.” Over the years, the tavern has hosted stagecoach riders, runaway slaves, a best-selling novelist, and countless others.

In 1843, brothers and escaped slaves Lewis and Milton Clarke spoke at The Old Tavern. The next day, slave catchers captured Milton. Shortly thereafter a mob of locals freed him. Later, Harriet Beecher Stowe stayed at The Old Tavern. According to local legend, the Clark brothers’ story inspired the character of George Harris in Stowe’s timeless novel,  “Uncle Tom’s Cabin.”

YESCO, experts in sign and lighting repair, donated and installed the sign announcing the society’s new preservation headquarters in Madison, Ohio.

The society thanked YESCO Cleveland for “making [it] all possible,” specifically mentioning the impressive work done by YESCO’s own Brian Haines and Scott Bulzan.
