YESCO recently returned to Raft River Electric Cooperative in Malta, Idaho, to upgrade a pylon sign we originally provided in 2014.

The original sign featured a 20mm YESCO Electronics electronic message center (EMC) that served Raft River Electric for more than a decade with only a few minor service issues. As replacement parts for the older display became unavailable, YESCO worked with the cooperative to find a modern replacement that could preserve the proportions and appearance of the existing sign.

Following an on-site display demonstration and consideration of multiple options, Raft River Electric selected a new 8mm Watchfire electronic message center. The higher-resolution display provides a significant improvement in image and text clarity, giving the cooperative more flexibility to share safety reminders, community messages, contact information, and other important communications with members and passing motorists.

The new EMC also features a borderless design on the left and right sides, allowing the display width to closely align with the existing upper identification cabinet for a clean, integrated appearance.

More Than an EMC Upgrade

While completing the electronic message center replacement, YESCO also upgraded the fluorescent T-12 lighting in the upper Raft River Electric identification cabinet to new LED lighting. The retrofit modernizes the illumination while preserving the existing sign structure and branding.

For organizations with aging illuminated signs or electronic message centers, replacing outdated components can often extend the useful life of an existing sign without requiring an entirely new sign structure.

Serving a Rural Idaho Community

Raft River Electric Cooperative provides electrical service across rural areas where distance and location can make reliable infrastructure especially important. The upgraded EMC gives the cooperative another highly visible way to communicate information with the communities it serves.

The new display is already being put to use with professionally created content, including electrical safety messaging such as reminders to call 811 before digging.
