YESCO Support Artist Adolfo R. Gonzalez in Fabricating, Installing “Striving Populace” Sculpture at College of Southern Nevada and City of Las Vegas Westside Education and Training Center

YESCO announces its role in supporting artist Adolfo R. Gonzalez with the fabrication and installation of “Striving Populace,” a striking new sculpture now standing at the College of Southern Nevada and City of Las Vegas Westside Education and Training Center. The center provides credentialed job training programs in advanced manufacturing, healthcare, technology and construction trades.

Commissioned by Gonzalez, YESCO fabricated the main structural inner skeleton, engineered and installed the footing and assisted in assembling the upper face portion of the sculpture. Gonzalez welded together the lower circular portion in his studio, while YESCO provided installation expertise to secure the full piece onsite.

Constructed with a steel frame and stainless steel cladding, the sculpture integrates concrete, wood salvaged from an original Westside neighborhood home, paint, mosaic glass, ceramic and tile. Gonzalez selected these materials to symbolize the foundation, structure and spirit of the homes that once defined the community.

The sculpture represents generational cultural wealth, with one side featuring the face of a man and the opposite side depicting a woman, together symbolizing endurance, faith and pride.

“My art is designed to not only look great but also have a backstory,” said Gonzalez. “This piece honors the people who lived here and built families, dreams and generations. It is meant to evoke the ancestral history, struggles and resilience of the Historic Westside.”

“This collaboration shows how art and fabrication expertise can come together to create something extraordinary,” said Jeff Young, executive vice president, YESCO. “Adolfo’s vision and craftsmanship, combined with YESCO’s engineering and installation support, resulted in a sculpture that beautifully reflects the endurance, spirit and legacy of this Las Vegas community.”
