YESCO Reno recently completed a two-part signage update for Dolan Dodge on Kietzke Lane in Reno, Nevada, combining a channel letter reface with an LED lighting retrofit.

Rather than replacing the existing signage entirely, the project focused on updating the components that needed attention. The south elevation received new faces for the existing “DODGE” channel letters, while the west elevation signage received new LED modules.

New Faces for the DODGE Channel Letters

On the south elevation, YESCO removed the existing trim-capped faces from the “DODGE” channel letters and brought them back to the YESCO shop to use as patterns.

New trim-capped faces were then manufactured and installed in place of the originals, refreshing the appearance of the existing channel letter set without requiring complete replacement.

Upgrading the West Elevation with New LEDs

The west elevation required a different solution.

YESCO removed and disposed of the existing LED modules and installed new LED modules inside the signage. LED retrofits can renew the illumination system within an existing sign while allowing businesses to continue using sign cabinets, channel letters, and other components that remain in serviceable condition.

Reface vs. Retrofit: What’s the Difference?

This project is a great example of two common commercial sign services.

A sign reface updates the visible face or graphics of an existing sign. A lighting retrofit updates components inside the sign—such as replacing an existing illumination system or LED modules.

Both can extend the useful life of existing signage without starting over with an entirely new sign.
