Real Salt Lake Soccer Team Wins Championship, Gets a Sign
3/10—Salt Lake City, Utah
Just months after Real Salt Lake won the 2009 National Major League Soccer Cup, YESCO installed a colorful new LED sign for the team. The sign is located next to the I-15 freeway west of the Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah.
Our client, Real Salt Lake/Rio Tinto Stadium, wanted an attractive sign with good freeway exposure to announce the stadium’s upcoming Real soccer games, concerts and other events. The 75'-tall sign features a full-color digital display and cabinets for the team’s sponsors.
After designing and building the Real sign, YESCO Salt Lake installed it in February 2010, and will soon install a second sign on the east side of the stadium. That sign, though not as tall as its I-15 counterpart, will also have a full-color LED display, plus a copper-colored soccer ball feature.
The new REAL Salt Lake/Rio Tinto sign is a fitting tribute to a team that fought a David-and-Goliath-like battle last November to win the Major League Soccer Cup, defeating the Los Angeles Galaxy. The win was the first championship for a Utah team in a major professional league since 1971, when the Utah Stars claimed the American Basketball Association title.
