Art Meets Industry: Bringing David Ryan’s Vision to Life in Downtown Las Vegas

Creating the signs that define a city’s skyline is a daily task at YESCO, but a recent project allowed us to apply our industrial expertise to the world of fine art. We are proud to have fabricated and installed “Waiting On A Light On The Corner By Sound Exchange,” a new public sculpture by Las Vegas-based artist David Ryan.

Located at the prominent intersection of Third Street and Ogden Avenue, this 20-foot work translates Ryan’s hand-drawn concepts into a civic-scale installation using the materials and engineering techniques typically reserved for our large-scale signage projects.

Positioned at the edge of the iconic Fremont Street Experience, the sculpture adopts the familiar posture of a classic Las Vegas sign but with a twist. Rather than directing or selling, the piece exists with an open-ended purpose, offering a moment of visual intrigue and reflection amidst the city’s brilliant lights and energy.

Our challenge was to preserve the organic, human quality of Ryan’s original linework while achieving the structural integrity required for a permanent outdoor fixture. Through our in-house engineering, fabrication, and installation capabilities, we moved the work seamlessly from a sketch to its final 20-foot form without losing its conceptual intent.

The artist selected us for our specialized ability to execute complex projects at scale while navigating the technical constraints of an urban site. From visibility and spatial limitations to meeting specific civic requirements, our collaboration with the City of Las Vegas ensured the piece functions responsibly within the public realm while maintaining the integrity of the original vision.
